Sir Ken Robinson says Public Education Kills Creativity

From the TED Conference. Why don't we get the best out of people? Sir Ken Robinson argues that it's because we've been educated to become good workers, rather than creative thinkers. Students with restless minds and bodies -- far from being cultivated for their energy and curiosity -- are ignored or even stigmatized, with terrible consequences. "We are educating people out of their creativity," Robinson says. It's a message with deep resonance. Robinson's TEDTalk has been distributed widely around the Web since its release in June 2006. The most popular words framing blog posts on his talk? "Everyone should watch this."

A visionary cultural leader, Sir Ken led the British government's 1998 advisory committee on creative and cultural education, a massive inquiry into the significance of creativity in the educational system and the economy, and was knighted in 2003 for his achievements.

The TED speech of Ken Robinson is great. One thought he is just one of the most recent of the Creativity GURUS, of which there have been and are many around the world who have said and continue to say most of the same things in their own ways using their own stories and references.

This is a fantastic video, in fact when I came across it a number of weeks back I posted it on a few of my friends pages on Facebook. He really has a grasp of human creativity.

Sir Ken is great, I saw him live last year, and we did a podcast interview with him. I would add the sound file here directly, but ning seem to exclude sound only. Listen here http://www.phorecast.com/2007/12/10/phorecast-podcast-no-01-%E2%80%93-sir-ken-robinson/
