bouncing thru the network and saw the leadership festival. A boss I respect retired resently so I wrote a piece on Leading. Thought I would share"
Leading
Leading is more a calling than a competence. It’s more an endurance than a title. Leading is a skill many aspire to yet few fulfill. Leading launches out to change a world much bigger than itself.
Leading is reading into the future. It sees what needs to be, then marches toward it. Leading multiplies the endurance of a mission.
Leading knows when to grow. It is permeable to new input. Leading is better known by what it asks than what it says. Leading is seeding strength in others. To grow them beyond themselves. Leading leaves a wake of all who have gained from its example.
Leading often entails bleeding. It pays a dear price; for it pushes past comfort zones and certainties and its confidence often misread as arrogance. Leading doesn’t wait for the opportunity of a lifetime; yet acts during the lifetime of the opportunity.
Leading is not readily distracted. With bulldog tenacity, it’s not a matter of if, but when the mission will be accomplished. Leading is continually swimming upstream. Against the course of inertia, the way it was and past successes. Leading does what it does because it needs to be done. Leading never ends, it only changes forms.
I am unable at this time to confirm. I teach with the International Projects department of HEC Montreal (the business school) and we are still waiting to confirm the dates at which international groups from China are supposed to come to Montreal for customized programs developed for them (we deliver most of the programs in China, and then they come to Montreal for a couple of courses), and they are facing delays due to the Olympics in getting the exit visas.
Unfortunately (if it conflicts with your dates here), when they're in town, we spend the days teaching and the evenings with them as well around the city.
I'm hoping to get confirmation for this by early September, so let's stay in touch.
thanks for connecting. I wish I could help you with your attempts at reaching Cirque du Soleil folks, but those I know left that place years ago.
Re: your question, I teach applied creative problem solving courses as well as courses on tools and techniques for applied creativity in a variety of forms and approaches, in university settings and in private organizations, and give seminars and conferences on related topics.
I was also very active for years with the CPSI conference in the US (www.cpsiconference.com) but I have more recently been lots more involved with CREA, the Italian creativity conference (www.creaconference.com) where I am, for the second year, in charge of programs, along with one of the CREA founders.
As for thought leadership, I have somewhat stayed away from groups discussing the topic as it still, from my point of view, lacks substance and is too much of a general headliner whom many adapt to fit their needs and reframe old stuff.
Let me know if you're ever in Montreal, or if you have interests with the Italian conference.
OK, Annalie, let me know. Where is this Podcamp? And what is it, exactly?
Off now...flying to Atlanta, Georgia today. Working there this week. Talk with you later.
Best,
Dawn
Hello Annalie - I'd love to meet you for a drink on Friday, Oct 17. Of course, I want to be sure that it's a good use of your time. I'm not immersed in the world of creativity like many of you are. I've attended the Creative Problem Solving Institute for 15+ years, have been trained in CPS by Scott Isaksen who was the Chair of the Center for Creative Studies program (the consumate Master's program in the US), and have presented a few times. But I still consider myself a novice. I'm a Master Trainer for DDI so I certify people to be faciliators of DDI materials, and I specialize in conducting Leadership (and Cust Service) training for major corporations in the US and Europe.
So if you think I'd be someone who can help you, let's get together. If you get a better offer, no problem. Now we can meet for drinks, or I'd be happy to have you come to my house for dinner/drinks. I could even invite a few people who are in the area who also attend CPSI, etc. Amy Shanahan has a Master's from the Center for Creative Studies, Alan James is a university administrator who attends CPSI. Your call....whatever you'd like.
If you want, we may take a coffee or something like that when you are in Montreal.
Creativity and Thought Leadership space: i have a course in creativity, 2 in leadership, i am writing a book on creative leadership, and designing a course on the Leadership of creative liberty.
My email address is syllab@videtron.ca
i asked a friend for Lyn's email address, in case he has it.
Hi Annalie,
I hope that all is going well at AMP. My recollection is that you are probably on your research trip or about to leave on it. Trust that it is a productive time and look forward to hearing about it.
Regards,
Peter
