To prime the pump...

Daily I spend time reading new and old books on creativity.
Often during each year I attend and present at many creativity conferences.
Daily I internet with a growing community of creativity friends around the globe.
Most days I write about what I am learning.

I apologize for leaving out the ACA - American Creativity Association Conference...Tacoma, Washington/Seattle Area March 2009.

I think it may be more important to reduce my creativeness.

Ideas can be thought of as new directions to apply hard work to.

At some point you have to keep focus on one or two of the directions until the potential becomes actual success and impact.

Idea focused creativity without action about something you care about is a delightful form of recreational pleasure without offspring...

Seeing that you have been exposed to creative thinking development and deliberate creativity since you were a child, reining in your creativity may fit.

I am currently reading...

THE BACK OF THE NAPKIN
by Dan Roam
a visual thinking consultant

It has been an interesting read over the first 100 pages so far. Fairly analytical and structured in its approach to what often is considered subjective and unstructured.

Hi, Alan:

You are right. Dan Roam's approach is analytical & structured, but nevertheless it offers a good systems approach to problem analysis, at least from the visual thinking perspective.

Personally, I like Kurt Hanks' approach, as documented in his book, 'Rapid Viz' - unstructured, free-form & spontaneous.

Totally agree about Hanks and Belliston's books Rapid Viz and DRAW!

Both are visual books about visual thinking

Roam's is a verbal book about visual thinking.

I'm working on some rather rudimentary things, like taking note of what foods do for my thinking capacity, and looking at things like Yoga and exercise in general. External tools, like software, are next on my list.

I am writing books and giving seminars on creativity. My book, "Parallel Mind, The Art of Creativity" is available in e-book version for free to any member of this site. All I ask is a reader review on Amazon or on your blog. Go to:

If you are interested, please send me your email address to:

Thank you for sharing your recent favorite books. Some I have read and others look interesting.

I have two parallel questions running on CREATIVITY CHAMPIONS. 1) The one I wrote August 10, 2008 and 2) the one I wrote yesterday, May 20th, 2009.

Thanks for responding,

Alan
