Ideas exchange, Thought Leadership Festival and Creativity Bootcamp

Hello everyone and thanks for inviting me into this community.

What's my gig?
I am based in Sydney Australia where I work as Catalyst for Magic in one of Australia's oldest and largest Financial Services companies. My role is to help release, channel and connect the magic found in people as opposed to machines. In particular, their creativity, collaboration, & entrepreneurial spirit.

Most fun project?
Our favourite project is a Creativity Bootcamp and Innovation & Thought Leadership Festival that I curate and produce every 2 years, and its a blast. Alternate years, we work on implementating ideas we learn and discover during the Festival.

So what?
This result of all this magic is an explosion in creativity, knowledge & insights, new business ideas, entrepreneurial growth projects, innovation, friendship, fun and turned-on people who want to make a difference and who sustain and grow our business for everyone's benefit. And....I love it!

Why am I telling you this?
I want to meet you if you think we have some common interests. I discover the most unusual, quirky and talented people through the various Creativity, Thinking, Innovation and Foresight networks that I belong to, and we share ideas, help one another, promote the work or gifts of each other and sometimes do business together.

What I am really looking for?
I am very interested in meeting folks who have immersed themselves in the creative processes of the arts (music, theatre, sculpting, painting, poetry, film production, story-writing) for many years and then moved into facilitation of creativity with practical application in the business world. Folks who can seemlessly slide between these worlds and help me with awakening and deepening the creative desires of employees and the insight to apply this to everyday.

How?
Well...I invite you to visit me in Sydney, and I travel from time to time. Next trip is

London (20-23 Sept) and Amsterdam ( 24-27 Sept)

11-12 Oct: San Francisco
13-14 Oct: NYC
15-16 Oct: Providence, RI
17 Oct: Boston
18 Oct: Pittsburgh
19 -20 Oct: Toronto
21 Oct: Montreal
22-26 Oct: Camden, Maine
27 Oct: Chicago

I have a pretty full schedule, but hey...if we can catch up, I'm prepared to see how I can juggle things.

Annalie - I'm in Chicago, so if you'd like to connect or meet other creativity champions here, let me know at tom@tresser.com.

Say, what's your take on the leadership potential of artists and creatives? Do you know of any who hold elective office in Australia - can you connect me to them?

Thanks!

Hi Tom! Thats wonderful! I have my last day in Chicago and its a city I have not been to before- and can you believe I fly out at about 6pm! I am arriving on 26 Oct and going to attend the Sunday night Poetry Slam ay Green Mile Cocktail Lounge. Is there an interesting place where we could meet perhaps on Monday morning for breakfast- an amazing art gallery, a historical place, an amazing architecture site....so we can be surrounded by the creative arts in our conversation? (I will be staying at the Monaco hotel- just so that you know my co-ordinates!) I have to meet someone for lunch and will also be free after lunch if that suits you better.

In Australia, I guess the two most prminent artists that are also involved in shaping the political agenda are Peter garrett, ex Lead Singer of Midnight Oil and now Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts ( http://www.petergarrett.com.au/) and actress Cate Blanchett who is on the Prime Minister's Steering Committee for shaping the future of Australia, the 2020 Innovation Summit. Annalie, very interesting work you are doing to connect the artistic creative process with the business creative process. I see many parallels between the two - especially in the balance between preparing/leading and letting go. Many times as artists and as business people our desire to control each step of the process gets in the way of our desired goal/finished state. This balance is always a struggle in both fields.

I have been an artist all of my life (it is who I am at the core). Today I rarely paint/sculpt, but still see the world with artist eyes. After spending 2 years in a painting degree program I switched to Business. I worked a couple of years at a print and internet agency and have spent the last 10 years in marketing for a large consumer goods company here in Cincinnati, OH USA. My primary role here is to teach/consult and facilitate creative problem solving for our business teams globally.

I'd be happy to discuss your work further and seek ways how we can best work together.

Thanks Rob...that sounds very interesting indeed. I am not travelling through Cincinatti on this journey, but this kind of connection with people like yourself is exactly why I join networks such as this one. Isn't it wonderful how technology enables this type of collaboration?
